Raúl Pozo: A Leader Without a Retirement Date, More Than Half a Century in Insurance and Still Leading with Vision and Perseverance

Raúl Pozo was born on the island of Cuba and spent his childhood there during the 1940s, in the midst of World War II. He received his primary and secondary education at La Salle School, a Catholic institution run by the Christian Brothers, highly prestigious among Cuban youth. Later, he enrolled at La Salle University, located in the Civic Center of Vedado, his beloved and always-remembered neighborhood. However, he only completed two years, as with the rise of the so-called “Cuban Revolution,” everything changed and the situation destabilized. In early 1959, still a young man, he emigrated to the United States with his parents.

Once in the U.S., he voluntarily enlisted in the army, and during that time married the woman who has been his wife for more than sixty years. The couple had two children: a daughter and a son. When his military service ended, Raúl sought career opportunities. After working in several jobs with little projection, he decided to dedicate himself to the career of insurance agent, a field to which he has devoted his entire life.

For nearly fifteen years, he worked as an insurance agent for several American companies, specializing in disability insurance also known as income protection policies. Later, he understood the true potential of the business, especially as a bilingual professional, and decided to venture into the international insurance market. Years earlier, he had met Mr. David White, who, after closing the family business of agricultural tractor manufacturing, entered the insurance sector alongside his college friend, Mr. Johnny Morgan. Morgan, heir to a great fortune, was involved in real estate and had banking interests, in addition to being on the board of a prestigious bank in Mississippi—his home state. Johnny, who recently passed away in a plane crash while piloting his executive jet, was instrumental in the creation of Morgan White Group, an insurance group that operated across multiple insurance lines.

On one occasion, Raúl had the opportunity to access a valuable health insurance account promoted by the U.S. government and the Cuban American National Foundation, which offered free coverage to Cubans arriving from third countries. He was chosen to lead this initiative and moved to Mississippi seeking financial and administrative support. David White, the true driving force behind this new organization, prepared the bid for this account, which was eventually awarded. Thanks to his sales expertise, Raúl was appointed President of the International Division of Morgan White, which was already beginning to position itself as a major company in the southern United States.

As part of his responsibilities, he recruited agents and general agents to strengthen the new international division. He brought in several outstanding producers, many of whom, like him, worked at American Bankers. Around ten top-level professionals joined, many of whom still collaborate with Morgan White and maintain a close friendship with the company. Since then, Raúl has tirelessly traveled across Latin America, especially Venezuela, which stands out as a key market for international insurance. Over time, the team of this major insurance company solidified. There is no Latin American country that Raúl has not visited several times in his constant effort to drive Morgan White’s production.

Today, thirty-eight years later, Raúl continues to serve as President of Morgan White International. The company has positioned itself as one of the leading insurers throughout Latin America. Its production has expanded into the Caribbean islands, including former British, Dutch, and French colonies. This division has significantly contributed to the organized growth of Morgan White Group across the hemisphere. The company has the backing of the world’s most prestigious reinsurers and top-tier administration. Currently, Morgan White Group, with David White as Chairman of the Board and Raúl as President of the International Division, offers life, health, disability, dental, and vision policies, as well as guaranteed and diversified investment plans making up the most comprehensive international portfolio today.
